Acupuncture

Acupuncture describes an aspect of Chinese medicine that works to improve male and female fertility by restoring balance to the whole body.  Studies have shown that acupuncture’s mechanisms elicit positive changes in the nervous, endocrine and circulatory systems.

The minor insertion of a very fine needle (approximately the width of 3 human hairs) along specific pathways may lead to a reduction in sympathetic nervous system activity (the “fight or flight” response), and patients often report feeling deeply relaxed during and after an acupuncture session. The impact of a calmer nervous system on your fertility journey cannot be underestimated.

Endocrine changes as a result of acupuncture include the release of beta-endorphins (nature’s feel-good chemical) from the brain, which helps support the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian endocrine axis (a scientific name for the communication that occurs between the mind and the body). Circulatory system involvement focuses on improving blood circulation, with particular emphasis on increasing blood flow in the reproductive organs. Enhanced blood flow to this tissue may improve uterine lining and implantation rates.

Acupuncture treatment may also involve the prescription of Chinese herbs, use of cupping or moxabustion, and lifestyle and dietary advice. Each treatment is customized to your particular wellness needs as well as to your comfort level. Your practitioner will work closely with you to monitor the efficacy of each treatment tactic.

At the root and the branch (R&B), we strive to support our clients on their path to family building by providing the highest quality holistic and complementary care within a warm and nurturing environment.
